About Me

Hi I'm Lana Brandli.

I am a recognized health professional with two university degrees Bachelor of Science "Nutrition and Food Science" and Bachelor of Science "Dietetics" with "First Class Honours". These degrees provided me with the qualifications and skills to provide expert diet and nutrition advice for a wide range of nutrition related issues.

As an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) I am required to continually develop my nutrition knowledge and skills so you are guaranteed a quality, up-to-date service. In 2003 I decided to "go-it-alone" in private practice because of a desire to give a more personal high quality service which is often sadly lacking in many large businesses today. I have lived in the Bunbury area for over 14 years and plan to stay.

My first job as a Dietitian was with the Great Southern Division of General Practice. As a result I developed expertise in the area of cardiovascular disease which included surgery based education for clients with diabetes (type 2, type 1 and gestational), high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity.

Working for the prestigious Perth Diet Clinic gave me experience in many nutrition related areas including food allergies and intolerances. This is a very intricate area which can be very confusing for a client if not dealt with by a professional with knowledge and experience in this area.

Working at Bunbury SJOG hospital provided me with extensive experience in giving dietary advice with regards to irritable bowel syndrome, diverticular disease, bowel resection, stomal therapy, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, cronh's disease), gastrectomy (removal of the stomach), cholecystectomy (removal of the gall bladder), oncology nutrition and enteral (tube) feeding.

At SJOG I also worked in the renal unit consulting patients receiving haemodialysis. I currently run clinics in both Eaton and Bunbury where I see individuals on a private basis. For the types of nutrition related health issues you can see a dietitian for see the "Health Issues" section of this website. I also consult in various nursing homes in the Bunbury, Busselton, Harvey, Collie, Margaret River and Mandurah areas. Nutrition related issues in nursing homes include enteral (tube) feeding, malnutrition, obesity, constipation, diarrhoea, diabetes, parkinsons disease and huntingtons disease. Nursing homes often request me to review the menu to ensure the quality and variety of meals are optimal.

In general a private practice dietitian such as myself can do the following for clients:
i) Give expert advice regarding dietary requirements for a diverse range of nutrition related diseases and conditions.
ii) Translate scientific, evidence based information into practical advice and explain it in layman's terms.
iii) Assess personal food and nutrition requirements and give practical advice on how to achieve improvements in nutritional and health status.
iv) Explain nutrition fact from fiction and help clients find their way through the maize of nutrition quackery which is so rife amongst media outlets in today's society.
v) Where appropriate I will liaise with a client's General Practitioner, specialist or other allied health practitioner to maintain communication and achieve the best possible outcome.
vi) Give practical advice on how to implement changes into day to day life.
vii) Discuss ideas for shopping, cooking and eating out.
viii) Provide support and motivational skills to goal set and change lifestyle.
